SELEX Galileo, a Finmeccanica Company, has been awarded a contract to provide approximately 250 star tracker attitude sensors for the Iridium NEXT programme, Iridium's next-generation satellite constellation estimated to begin launching in 2015.  The Iridium NEXT constellation will include 81 satellites (66 operational low-Earth orbiting satellites to replace the current constellation; 6 in-orbit spare satellites and 9 ground spares) that will gradually replace the existing Iridium constellation.

From the 21 - 24 February, Finmeccanica Battlespace Solutions is pleased to participate in the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD)'s Forward Operating Base Exercise (FOBEX) in Caerwent, Wales. FOBEX is an MoD initiative to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) bringing together a range of industrial partners with innovative offerings. The focus is on applying an integrated system approach to the design of bases, with the architecture remaining open, yet secure, so that evolving needs can be quickly addressed.

SELEX Galileo, a Finmeccanica Company, is proud to announce a new contract for its PicoSAR AESA surveillance radar. The contract will see three PicoSAR radars sold to a non-NATO export customer as evaluation models, with the potential for a full production run upon successful tests. PicoSAR will be integrated into the customer's lightweight, tactical Unmanned Aerial System (UAS).

SELEX Galileo's new generation SEER Radar Warning Receiver (RWR) was recently tested with the Czech Republic Air Force. Results show that SEER had demonstrated extremely high sensitivity and accuracy compared to previous generation systems, performing as promised and fulfilling the expectations of the Air Force.

SELEX Galileo, a Finmeccanica Company, has signed an important agreement with the Italian Navy's CSSN (Centro di Supporto e Sperimentazione Navale - Centre for Support and Testing) that will see the two organisations work together to develop innovative technologies. The understanding between the CSSN, which will operate through the Institute for Telecommunications and Electronics based in Livorno, and SELEX Galileo paves the way for joint research and development activities following the guidelines of the Italian Navy's Department of Telecommunications and Electronics.

SELEX Galileo, a Finmeccanica Company, has signed a contract worth over 17 million Euros with the Italian Space Agency (Agenzia Spaziale Italiana, ASI) for the development and production of the SIMBIO-SYS instrument for the European Space Agency (ESA)'s BepiColombo mission. The total value of contracts awarded to SELEX Galileo for the SYMBIO-SYS exceeds 33 million Euros.

SELEX Galileo, a Finmeccanica Company, has been awarded a contract for EUR 5.3M to supply 2 further Hostile Artillery Location (HALO) systems to an existing non-NATO export customer. More than 25 HALO systems have been sold to customers around the world to date. HALO provides troops with timely
information on where the enemy is firing from, and data precise enough to engage the threat without risking harm to civilian populations.

SELEX Galileo, a Finmeccanica Company, has been awarded contracts worth in excess of 33M EUR for the supply of 196 high-energy lasers to be fitted in United States prime contractor targeting systems. Acting as rangefinders and designators, the lasers allow fighter aircraft crews to target the enemy with exacting precision while remaining outside the range of hostile fire.

Out of the hundreds of applications from some of the UK's top female engineers, SELEX Galileo's Arlene McConnell has been named as the Institution of Engineering Technology (IET)'s Young Woman Engineer of the Year 2010. Arlene is a radar and advanced targeting systems engineer at SELEX Galileo and has contributed to the development of some of the Company's most advanced products.

Last week, the winners of SELEX Galileo's Innovation Awards received their prizes. Teams from the Company received a number of awards for brand new technologies and ideas designed to meet the emerging requirements of customer around the world and most of all to help and protect troops on the front lines.

Finmeccanica announces that Steve Mogford, CEO of the Group's SELEX Galileo business, will leave the Group at the end of this year to take up the role of CEO of United Utilities PLC.  Chairman and CEO of Finmeccanica Pier Francesco Guarguaglini said, "Since joining Finmeccanica in 2007, Steve has successfully driven the development of SELEX Galileo, into one of the leading international companies within the Finmeccanica Group. While we are sorry he will be leaving the Group, we wish him every success in his new role. SELEX Galileo is proud to announce the launch of their new Observer surveillance system. Observer can provide troops in remote forward locations with a similar standard of radar and electro-optic surveillance to that available at permanent bases. Troops operating Observer can therefore reduce their reliance on risky and manpower intensive surveillance perimeters. Instead of multiple soldiers constantly scanning the horizon with man-portable equipment, they can spend more time on duties such as training local troops.

An intensive research and development programme that included project, modelling, simulation and test activities has borne fruit in the form of the Mirach 100/X Aerial Target, unveiled today by defence electronics company SELEX Galileo. The Mirach 100/X meets stringent modern requirements for high subsonic drones used as threat simulators in the test and evaluation of latest generation armed systems in land, sea and air domains.

SELEX Galileo, a Finmeccanica Company, has recently been awarded orders worth in excess of 6 Million Euro to supply international customers with 22 ERICA (ERICA MP and ERICA Plus) thermal imagers and EOST 46 airborne turrets. Fabrizio Giulianini, Deputy CEO of SELEX Galileo, commented on the success saying "These orders reflect the reliability and maturity of our systems, and the value for money they represent."

SELEX Galileo's Luton site has recently been awarded the respected Investors in People (IiP) Gold Standard award. The recognition follows on from the Silver award that SELEX Galileo's site in Basildon received earlier this year and the Gold ranking obtained by the Company's Edinburgh site last October, meaning that the Company's three largest UK-based sites have now all secured the prestigious honour.

A series of recent flight trials saw SELEX Galileo flying its SEER Radar Warning Receiver (RWR) with the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF), demonstrating the high level of performance achievable by the system. The SEER RWR is available in 2 variants, SEER Compact and SEER Distributed, the latter being the version flown by the Royal Malaysian Air Force. 

Andrea Gibelli, Vice President of Italy's Lombardy region, recently paid a visit to SELEX Galileo's centre of excellence in Nerviano. The Honourable Gibelli commented that the visit, which highlighted the Company's innovative technology, showed SELEX Galileo was upholding the Lombardy region's tradition of excellence and worldwide business success.
