SELEX Galileo, a Finmeccanica Company, has recently been awarded contracts in Italy worth approximately 110 Million Euro for support and service solutions covering a number of programmes. These include the Eurofighter Typhoon, Tornado, Grifo radar, simulators and Mirach target drones. The biggest of these contracts is an award from BAE Systems for the maintenance of Eurofighter Typhoon fleets in the United Kingdom, Germany and Spain.

SELEX Galileo, a Finmeccanica Company, has been awarded a contract worth more than £200M (approximately Euro 242 million) to supply an additional 88 Captor radar systems for the Eurofighter Typhoon Tranche 3A programme. The Captor Mechanically Scanned (M-Scan) radar is currently the primary sensor on the Eurofighter Typhoon and is considered best-in-class. 

From the 28th until the 30th September, SELEX Galileo, a Finmeccanica Company, will be exhibiting its latest microelectronics and vacuum technology at the European Microwave Week 2010 exhibition in Paris. At the show will be SELEX Galileo's state-of-the-art Microwave Power Modules (MPM), High Power Amplifiers (HPA), solid state microelectronics components, TWTs and mini-TWTs.

On Saturday the 11th September, the Royal Air Force (RAF) put on an Air Show at Leuchars Air Base in Fife, Scotland. The show impressed visitors with flying displays and commemorated the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain. SELEX Galileo, a Finmeccanica Company, reprised its role as a key sponsor of the event, helping transform the fully operational airfield into the largest show of its kind in Scotland.

SELEX Galileo, a Finmeccanica Company, has been awarded a contract by BAE Systems worth circa £400M to supply the Praetorian Defensive Aids Sub System (DASS) in support of the Tranche 3A Eurofighter Typhoons. Designed specifically for the Typhoon, the Praetorian DASS provides an unmatched level of situational awareness and protection for crews. The contract will see the first Praetorian delivery taking place in mid 2012. The systems will be supplied to all 4 partner nations; the UK, Italy, Spain and Germany.

A new set of flight trials for the Gabbiano radar recently came to a successful conclusion, with the medium power (20W) version of the radar with solid state amplifier and nose mounted antenna proving its capabilities on board AgustaWestland's AW139 helicopter. The flight campaign confirmed the radar's performance and operational capabilities, including surveillance with Track While Scan (TWS), search and rescue, High Resolution Synthetic Aperture Antenna (SAR), Inverse Synthetic Aperture Antenna (ISAR), navigation with ground mapping and weather avoidance.

SELEX Galileo, a Finmeccanica Company, is pleased to announce the delivery by COBHAM Australia of the tenth and last Project Sentinel DHC-8 aircraft, modified for a civil maritime surveillance role, to the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service. These aircraft are fitted with the SELEX Galileo-developed Surveillance Information Management (SIM) system, which is in the final stages of development and delivery. 

SELEX Galileo, a Finmeccanica Company, has delivered one of two simulators to the Aeronautica Militare (Italian Air Force)'s Ghedi Air Base to meet the operative requirements of the tactical Tornado fleet. The Company managed the restructuring of two training and simulation bases, Gioia del Colle and Ghedi.

SELEX Galileo, a Finmeccanica Company has been awarded a first contract by the Italian Navy, Marina Militare, for the supply of electro-optical naval Janus turrets, derived from the well known Janus sensor for land applications.
The naval Janus will equip Italian Navy's patrol boats operating in the Mediterranean in illegal immigration control missions.
Janus features outstanding day and night long-range detection, identification, and mission recording.

This year children attending Scotland's largest Robotic Games tournament will hear a first hand account of an RAF Leuchars Fighter Pilot's experiences on Quick Reaction Alert.
Peter Bennett, creator of the Scottish Robotic Games said: 'Last year we had NASA Astronauts, this year its Fighter Pilots. Really the goal is to give children a sense of the incredible impact that technology has on their lives. A child who is able to construct a Rampaging Chariot Robot could one day go on to work as an engineer or scientist at the forefront of modern technology.

SELEX Galileo, a Finmeccanica Company, has signed a teaming agreement with Universal Engineering Company Ltd (Charlestown) to be the exclusive supplier and integrator of mission and sensor systems for the Company's Ranger series of vehicles.
The agreement means that SELEX Galileo's Mission Systems architecture and Indirect Vision System (IVS) technology will be the default choice when bidding Ranger into armoured vehicle programmes, with the two companies working together on marketing and tenders.

The SELEX Galileo-led AHEAD Consortium has presented to the European Defence Agency (EDA) a vision of how the modern dismounted soldier could be better equipped in the future. The Consortium has put forward a range of solutions designed to make troops significantly better protected by 2020.
The presentation is the final milestone in the Consortium's contract, the completion of which has confirmed SELEX Galileo's role at the forefront of research into soldier-protection technology.

On the 26 May, SELEX Galileo, a Finmeccanica Company, played a key part in the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD)'s trials being carried out under the Electro-Magnetic Remote Sensing (EMRS) Defence Technology Centre (DTC). Working closely with the UK MoD and a range of UK Industry partners, the trials involved the Company gathering data from a number of its latest sensors with a view to improving the technology behind them.

SELEX Galileo, a Finmeccanica Company, will be reinforcing partnerships with the Kazakhstan Ministry of Defence (MoD) and in-country Industry at KADEX 2010, the Country's first international exhibition of military technology. In Kazakhstan, SELEX Galileo has been active for several years, supporting the Kazakhstan MoD and Border Guard in the evaluation of a number of solutions aim at enhancing their existing capabilities.

SELEX Galileo employees and members of the UK Armed Forces Combined Services Disabled Ski Team (CSDST) are cycling from 'Home to Rome' in a tough sponsored challenge. Starting from Luton, UK and covering an average of 80 miles per day for a total journey of over 1000 miles, the team's efforts will raise money for the CSDST, helping them continue to compete in International skiing events and enter the winter Paralympics in 2014. On May 23, the cyclists were welcomed by General Franco Cravarezza, Commander of Italy's Northern Military Region, and spent the night at the Italian Army's Campus Ribera barracks.

SELEX Galileo recently played host to Member of the European Parliament (MEP) Debora Serracchiani, who visited the Company's site in Ronchi dei Legionari. The Member of the Committee on Transport and Tourism was given a tour of the site and saw first-hand how Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), drones and flight simulators are built to exacting standards, marking the site as a European Centre of Excellence. A visit to Ronchi dei Legionari's Eurofighter Typhoon programme also served to emphasise the pan-European nature of the Company's success.

SELEX Galileo is demonstrating how its suite of systems can boost civilian and military security forces' situational awareness, especially when facing modern asymmetrical threats.
