SELEX Galileo puts great emphasis on identifying, developing and demonstrating key technologies to enhance performance, decrease costs, improve manufacturing and increase reliability of  electronics systems and sensors for air land, sea and space applications.
 
Working closely with our partners, universities and research centres, SELEX Gaileo is at the forefront of technology and research. 
 
In the UK, SELEX Galileo has leading in-house technology capabilities including microwaves and rf, electro-optics, signal processing and has two world class technology centres of excellence in lasers and infra-red detectors. 
 
In Italy  it has state of art capabilities in optical design (both visible and IR), IRST, Radar and Sonics advanced processing,  as well as Mission Computer/Graphics and operational SW including safety critical avionics. UAV design and space technology complete the range of capabilities.
 
SELEX Galileo has leading management positions on two UK Defence Technology Centres looking at research into Electromagnetic Sensors and Systems Engineering for Autonomous Systems.
 
SELEX Galileo is part of "Centro Ricerche Radar Optel Consortium" that fosters advanced research within Italian Universities.
 
In addition SELEX Galileo is a major sponsor of external research and technology with a wide range of academia, SMEs (small to medium enterprises) and RTOs (research and technology organisations). 
 
Significant involvement in European, International and National research programmes is instrumental to consolidating our core technologies. With the European research programmes FP6 and FP7, we lead the SOBCAH consortium tasked to develop architecture and road maps for the surveillance of border coastlines and harbours. We are also part of  SESAR, the Single European Sky ATM research programme.
