Electrical Power

Based on a modular concept of functional blocks and boxes, SELEX Galileo electrical power systems are tailored to Customer requirements. Over 200 units for electrical power regulation and distribution applications have been deployed on Space programmes such as Ariane, Giotto, Soho, Cluster, Artemis, METOP, ATV, VEGA, Sicral 1 & 1B, COSMO SkyMed, Lisa Pathfinder (FEEP), GAIA and Sentinel 1.

The power equipment is designed and manufactured for different applications (GEO, LEO, Deep Space missions), ranging from Watts to Kilowatts (and from Volts up to Kilovolts) with different topologies and power conversion technologies, both for platforms and payloads.

FEEP
Field Emission Electrical Propulsion Power Control Unit (FEEP PCU) is designed for scientific missions requiring accurate positioning or atmospheric drag compensation (micro gravity). The PCU manages the supply of FEEP thrusters (up to 4 per PCU) and relevant neutralisers (up to 2 per PCU). Key to experiments like LISA and Microscope missions FEEP PCU has low thrust levels and high controllability.
PCU
The PCU (Power Control Unit) is the electronic equipment providing conditioning for a satellite's on-board energy sources (solar generator and batteries), as well as voltage regulation of the satellite main bus, protection and distribution of the main bus lines to the satellite users.
PDU
The PDU (Pyro Drive Unit) provides the commanding and supply functions to pyrotechnic electro-explosive devices for the release of the deployable appendices of satellites including solar array, antenna, instrument boom, and cover lids.
