Electro-optical Payloads for Scientific Missions

SELEX Galileo has developed a unique competence in mission payloads, from design to manufacturing and testing of optical payloads, mastering optics, focal plane assembly, electronics and precision mechanics, with outstanding performance for high quality observation of the Earth and of distant and faint space objects. SELEX Galileo has developed state-of-the-art spectrometers and hyper-spectral cameras for the observation of the Earth such as SLSTR, GOME, PRISMA and TXA.

VIRTIS - Visible InfraRed Thermal Imaging Spectrometer
VIRTIS (Visible & Infrared Thermal Imaging Spectrometer) is a hyperspectral imaging spectrometer in the visible and mid-infrared regions, used for remote sensing in deep space missions. VIRTIS has been selected by ESA (European Space Agency) for Rosetta and Venus Express programmes.
GIADA - Grain Impact Analyser and Dust Accumulator
GIADA (Grain Impact Analyser and Dust Accumulator) multi sensor equipment is designed to measure the physical properties of the cometary dust (number of particles, their mass and speed) by means of optical systems and piezoelectric transducers (microbalances). GIADA is part of the Rosetta mission payload to study the comet dust flux evolution and dynamic grain properties.
VIMS - Visible InfraRed Mapping Spectrometer
VIMS (Visible Infrared Mapping Spectrometer) provides remote sensing, developed in cooperation with ASI, ESA and NASA for the Cassini mission. Installed on the Orbiter since October 1997, its primary objective is to provide two dimensional, multispectral, high resolution images for the detailed study of the composition and structure of the Saturn ring system, dark materials and atmosphere.
Laser Launch Telescope - LTA/ LTT - Laser Telescope Assembly
LTA/ LLT (Laser Telescope Assembly) is an instrument designed to support some of the biggest ground telescopes of the world such as VLT (ESO-D), Subaru (NAOJ) and the Keck Observatory in Hawaii to correct and mitigate the effects of air turbulence on astronomical objects.
FASTER for ISS (International Space Station)
FAST (Facility for Adsorption and Surface Tension studies) enables the study and development of a multi-user facility, dedicated to the interfacial phenomena studies for SPACEHAB. Lanched in October 1998 on the STS95 Mission and in January 2003 on the STS107 Mission, it is a candidate for the ISS. For this purpose, a phase B study has been performed and the facility has been renamed FASTER.
SIMBIO-SYS
SIMBIO-SYS (Spectrometer and Imager for MPO Bepi Colombo Integrated Observatory SYStem) for the ESA Bepi Colombo mission is an optical instrument suite composed of a high resolution multi-band camera, a stereo and multi-band camera for topography and 3D reconstructions as well as an imaging spectrometer for mineralogic mapping.
